In The End, Does It Really Matter?

We keep "changing" ourselves. Reinventing, as it is described by people. For several people it is not as if they have changed at all. It is the effect of their peers and their ambitions. "How To Be A Good Leader", "How To Be An Effective Manager", "10 Steps To Self-Improvement". All these and more provide you with insights on what to change about yourself......or, what to project yourself as.

So what are we doing? Do we assume that there's a pattern, a formula for success and all those achieve success are virtually clones of each other? Can't it happen that I am "different" and succeed in life? Do I really have to conform at every stage? It sickens me at times to see how these things work. Everywhere you have people running around trying to be clones of their idols, trying to overcome weaknesses not by recognizing them but by trying to paper over them.

And just WHAT do these people want? What do these clones actually want out of their life? Well, if you were tto ask, they wouldn't really know. It's more of a thing of....well, the herd's running to Point X, so my aim is to get there first and be the best.....wow! Some aim...and what after that? What if you do indeed reach there? Will it really fill your heart with contentment at having achieved what you really wanted? Chances are, it won't, because you never really knew what you wanted in the first place....which of course, will actually ensure that you never will win....after all, even if you're ahead in the race, you're still a rat!

Freedom of expression and thought are really the biggest myth of our times. You have no right to differ from what the "gurus" have proclaimed, be it Philip Kotler or Keynes or Bill Gates or indeed Tom, of Tom, Dick and Harry fame. You must obey the "norms" of society. You must do what is "acceptable", you must BE what they WANT you to be....WHY????

So ultimately, you're just a confused mass. You feel one way inside, but don't dare say it openly. After all, that would be blasphemy. "God" would frown upon you.....what would "society" think? Sometimes I wonder if we ever will see the day where we CAN actually exercise our will to even a small degree.....

Yes, Abhinav. The way out is seemingly easy....but that is the exact point I am trying to make. How many of us have the guts to actually stand up? How many would dare to be ourselves? Not too many, I'm afraid.

Hmm,these thoughts seem familiar :).It's a tradeoff Mikey, most people succeed by treading the most walked path. But we still have ppl like Harsha Bhogle & Kalpana Chawla who chose to follow their dreams rather the protocol. So,if you have the guts, the world's your stage :).We BADLY need people who are 'different' :D.

hmm, the problem with most of the guys is that one thinks its in vogue to BE DIFFERENT, THINK DIFFERENTLY, ACT DIFFERENTLY etc etc...where as most of us are NOT. we try to pump in attitude and the THINK DIFFERENT tag in the realms of our Internet existance... Blogs, forums, net pals etc...but in reality we are all part of the same crowd...nervous, fidgity, fun seeking...why try to come across as pseudo intellects when we 'write' ? professionally, all that we are could be termed as well oiled machines with varying levels of emotionality and efficiency. The sad state is that trying to be different introduces ego clashes with the self. one grovels and almost rakes every part of his self in that attempt to be different and act different. what does that lead to, low self esteem, feeling of isolation, frivolous ego levels and high digrees of paranoia. My question is, is it imperative for everyone to try and be a Harsha Bhogle or a Kalpana Chawla or some biggie daddy in life. is it a crime to be an efficient 9 to 6 worker and a late night party, music freak or a B-skooler with sufficient grades to get a bloody job and get done with it..!! beats me...!!

U arnt getting the point dude. When I gave tht example,it was in response to whether we can be what we want to be or not.Or do we always go by what's 'in'.Different doesnt mean trying to be like others and ending up being unlike urself, the way you make it sound. You can only be different by being yourself.
Be a late-night party sort.None's stopping you.But when you feel that you should be partying everynight, just to fit into ur peer group, there you are losing yourself.Dont do stuff for the heck of sounding/being different!!!
