“Oh, so they killed him”. It’s a statement that everyone seemed to make when they read about the alleged suicide of Sadiq Batcha. On paper of course, it has now been pronounced death by asphyxia by the post-mortem and it’s accepted officially as a suicide.
The doctor that conducted the post-mortem though quit within a couple of days of the result and is now contesting elections. Coincidence? We’re supposed to believe so, but how many actually do?
The credibility of the government has never been lower since as long as I can remember – and since that time spans the rules of PVN, IKG, HDDG, ABV and MS, that’s really saying a lot! The systemic corruption has never been worse than it is today and the government seems to be looting the exchequer with a will never seen before. It’s almost as if they have assumed that they won’t return to power and so, should make the most of it while they enjoy it.
What is worse though is the other alternative, which is that they are convinced that the populace is stupid and will vote them back to power anyway. It’s something that sends shivers down my spine, but past evidence suggests that such an assumption may well be proved right.
We have a PM who claims to not know what happens in his government.
We have a government that has transcended all expectations of shame.
We have a Finance Minister who puts the privacy of those with unaccounted funds worth trillions higher than the need to “bring them in”.
We have a government that believes that the right punishment for a corrupt CM is a Central portfolio.
We have “Cabinet reshuffles” as the cure to all ills - a different portfolio obviously seems to be taken as the 'punishment' warranted for any ills ranging from incompetence to corruption to murder.
We have an Agriculture Minister who believes it is better to allow food to rot rather than distribute it to those dying of starvation.
We have our own equivalent of the ‘Royal Family’ that is immune to all investigations of corruption despite all roads seemingly leading directly to it.
We have a State that believes that the CWG scam never happened.
I really could go on. Are we really convinced that this is the best government we can have? If anyone thinks that the answer is yes, I despair for the future of the country itself.
